You Are Not Alone
When people ask how I’m able to do this work—walking alongside patients and families at the end of life—I tell them honestly: I don’t do it alone.
I was raised in a Christian home, and since childhood, I’ve felt God’s steady presence in my life. Each morning before I begin my day, I pause to pray. I ask God for strength, wisdom, and the kind of compassion that this work requires on even the hardest days.
There have been times, especially when family dynamics are so complex, that I’ve felt unsure of what to say or do. In those moments, I pray. I ask God to show me a way forward—to help bring comfort, or even just the right words. Sometimes answers come. Other times, they don’t—because some situations have been tangled and complicated for years. As my social work colleagues often remind me, we can’t fix everything, but we can help open lines of communication, and sometimes, that’s where healing begins.
If you’re someone who believes in God or a higher power, I encourage you to nurture your spiritual life even more in this work. You have a faithful companion walking with you every step of the way. You are not alone.
Affirmation of the Day:
I do not walk this path alone. Strength and wisdom are given to me as I need them.
Self-Care Tip:
Take five quiet minutes today to breathe deeply and center yourself—whether through prayer, meditation, or stillness. Let it be a moment of connection and grounding before or after your workday
