Feeling Like You’re Not Enough as a Hospice Nurse?

As I’ve been thinking about how I can nurture and care for you, my fellow hospice nurse, I thought of writing encouraging affirmations for you and self care tips in my blogs. I hope they will help you along your hospice journey. Please let me know if these are helpful to you. Your feedback is important to me.

Are you feeling inadequate as a hospice nurse? Are you wondering, Am I doing enough? If you are a new hospice nurse, I remember feeling that way. Even experienced nurses like me feel that way too. It’s easy to think that you’re falling short but give yourself grace because you are just starting in this hospice work. Yes, there is a lot to learn and in time it will all come together for you. Let go of perfection and the impossible standard that you may be holding on to. The care and compassion you bring to each patient matters more than you know for your patients and families. Always remember you are enough, exactly as you are.

An Affirmation for You

“I am enough, exactly as I am, in this moment.” Say this aloud to yourself as many times as you need to and believe it. Let these words anchor you today- especially when doubt whispers otherwise.

Self-care Tip

Take 3 slow, intentional breaths. Place your hand over your heart and remind yourself: “I am enough.” Take this time to nurture yourself before you head out the door to see your patients.

As you step into your day, carry this with you:

you don’t have to be perfect to be a good hospice nurse.

Your presence, your compassion, and your willingness to care are already making a difference.

And that is more than enough.
