A Beginning Note for the New Hospice Nurse

If you have begun a new position as a hospice RN case manager, I want to welcome you to this sacred work. Many view this work as depressing and heavy, and it may be at times, but for because it is so complex a lot of nurses shy away from it. But you haven’t. You have stepped forward and even though you might have self doubt about being able to do this job, there is something in you that resonates with caring for the dying and terminally ill.

I want to let you know how valuable and needed you are in this field of nursing. And as your journey of hospice starts, I want you to know that I’ve been in your shoes. I know the anxiety and fear of the unknown you may be feeling now. I’ve been in it over 10 years and still going strong. I want you to know you can do this work successfully and find joy and satisfaction in it.

I’ve created my website to be a landing place for new hospice nurses with resources, practical tips and encouragement to help you through your days. I have also written a book called “Sunset Angels: A Companion Guide for New Hospice Nurses”. It is especially written for you as you start your journey in hospice. It’s available in on Amazon in paperback or kindle form. You’re just beginning to find your way and create your own routine and rhythm in this work, us this book as a resource to you.

Again, welcome to the world of hospice. You have chosen an area in nursing that is meaningful and you’ll find that you can really make a difference in the lives of your patients and their families.
